Greetings from South America, Pt. 3...
Greetings from Iguazu Falls!
On Monday our guide in Rio, Fernando, offered to take my Uncle and I on a walking of tour of downtown Rio. I gladly accepted. So Fernando and I took the Metro into the Centro section of Rio. We took the Bonde, which is an antiquated Trolley system, up to the old neighborhood of Santa Tereza and back, then walked and visited other sites around Centro. Then in the afternoon, I met up with my Uncle and we walked Ipanema Beach.
Today, we flew to Iguazu, Brazil to visit its famous waterfalls. Iguazu Falls, which feature prominently in the mid-1980´s movie, The Mission, are considered the widest waterfall in the world. In comparison, Niagara Falls has more waterflow, while Victoria Falls are higher. When we got to Iguazu, we were met by our local guide, who took us to the Brazilian Side of the falls, which includes the Garganta do Diablo (Throat of the Devil), which are the more impressive part of the falls. She did indicate that due a three month drought, the falls were less impressive than they usually are (When I post pictures, I will show you what I mean...) Nonetheless, the Garganta was still very impressive.
Tomorrow, we will visit the Argentine side of the falls before heading on to Buenos Aires.

Oooo, how is the Metro in Rio?
Glad to hear that this trip is going so well.
@TheCheshireGrins - Air Conditioned!!!!!!!
Seriously though, it is a pretty nice (and cheap) system. One of the amusing things I found out about their metro is during rush hour, they have a special "Women's Only" car in the rear of the train. It was set up specifically for women riders to avoid being harassed by male metro riders. They are distinctive by their pink lighting (or pink interiors - I can't remember which off the top of my head...). The only ones that are permitted to ride these cars are women or women and their husbands...
@MoparMessiah - Thanks Mopar!
